Trauma Center 

Department of Limb Trauma, Department of Spine and Joint Trauma, Department of Hand Injury and Trauma Plastic Repair, Department of Craniocerebral Trauma

In Apr. 2008, the Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau approved the establishment of Shanghai Trauma Emergency Center in south branch. The organizational structure, the professional group, equipment and techniques altogether make it possible to establish a trauma center. By adopting international experience and clinical application, the medical, teaching and researching staffs from medical emergency system work together to explore the organization, clinical theory and technique of trauma rescue. In Oct. 2013, the trauma center was officially founded which became the first and only intensive and professional trauma emergency center in Shanghai. As the only large hospital with comprehensive emergent trauma treatment capability in the western and southern part of Shanghai, the trauma center grow rapidly.

The Center now has opened 116 regular beds. By integrating the advantages of orthopedic trauma, hand surgery, repair and reconstruction surgery, craniocerebral trauma, recovery after trauma and trauma psychology, it formulates an overall treatment plan for each patient in a reasonable manner. It is expected to realize the seamless integration of the green life channel from inside to outside of the hospital.

Its Director is Professor Wang Qiugen, an academic leader and doctoral supervisor. Professor Wang serves as National Member of Trauma Branch of Chinese Medical Association, former Chairman of Trauma Society of Shanghai Branch of Chinese Medical Association, National Member of Orthopedic Trauma Group of Orthopedic Branch of Chinese Medical Association, Vice Chairman of AADO, International Member of OTA, Member of Lecturer Team of AO International Internal Fixation Association, Executive Editorial Board Member of International Journal of Orthopaedics, Editorial Board Member of Chinese Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma and Chinese Journal of Orthopaedics.


Main Departments under Trauma Center

Orthopaedic Trauma
In recent years, it applies the concept of damage control orthopedics in the comprehensive treatment of a patient with trauma under extreme conditions. At present, it has made progess in clinical and basic research of minimally invasive treatment of fracture, nonunion with massive bone defect, pelvis and acetabulum fracture, complicated traumatic joint prosthesis replacement, spine and spinal cord injury. It has preliminarily set up some subspecialties including spine trauma, pelvis trauma, shoulder-elbow-wrist, hip-knee and foot-ankle.

Hand Surgery and Repair & Reconstruction Surgery
Its primary direction is amputated limb and finger replantation & hand function reconstruction, post-traumatic limbs tissue defect and limb function reconstruction and limb deformity correction. It is specialized in repairing surrounding nerve injury and complicated soft tissue defect with microsurgical technique to "not disable the wounded, not maim the disabled".

Craniocerebral Trauma Surgery
In recent years, it has gained rich experience in rehabilitation after severe craniocerebral injury and craniocerebral trauma. It applies scientific and standardized pre-operation, in-operation and post-operation management system. Now the department stresses more efficient rescue and treatment effect in terms of treating the patients with craniocerebral trauma.

Now the Trauma Center has established a multi-functional dissecting room integrating scientific experiments, training and exchange and clinical practice. With professional researchers, it forms unique scientific research features in countrymen trauma database, pelvis impact injury and surrounding nerve injury.
